Portugal Performance Retreat

Join us in the Algarve, Portugal and enjoy 4 star hotel service, beaches and some winter sunshine, whilst honing your guitar, singing and performance skills. We are returning to the fantastic 4 star hotel Pestana Dom Joao II, situated right on the beach next door to the charming fishing port of Alvor in the unspoilt part of the Algarve. Partners are especially welcome here and we are positive they will enjoy all the amenities on offer – Pool, spa, gardens, bar, lounge etc. We have the use of our own private room to teach, practise, play and jam in both day and night. We can also use the beautiful gardens, lounge areas and outside terrace to practice and relax in.

There will be group and one-to-one tuition during the week from the two tutors. Plus this year additional workshops on performance polishing, etiquette and techniques. The main focus of the week will be on playing with others, sharing skills, tips and tricks and improving your ability and expanding your repertoire. There will also be the opportunity to join the tutors and perform in the hotel lounge as we have done to great acclaim in previous years!

This event is both a holiday and a guitar retreat in one so there will be lots of time out to simply relax and explore the local beaches, marina, countryside, towns and villages etc. Optional day trips out to local attractions. It’s also the perfect location if you enjoy a round of golf or better yet crazy golf! There will be lots of jamming, song sharing and singing in the evenings.

TUITION:

There will be optional teacher led group classes and one-to-one tuition during the week. These sessions will consist of morning group classes and afternoon one-to-one slots plus occasional workshops on special techniques, performance skills etc. Classes will be aimed at intermediate abilities and are structured fun, inclusive experiences with lots of group playing. The main focus of the week will be on playing with others, sharing skills and improving your ability and repertoire aiming towards a public performance at the end of the week. Tuition and guidance comes from Stuart Marshall and guest tutor Paul Nicholas.

Tutors:

Stuart Marshall is the founder of Guitar Retreats and has taught literally thousands of students over the 10 years he has run Guitar Retreats. A lifetime of both playing and singing as a member of many bands plus his solo projects gives him with a wealth of experience and knowledge to pass on. Stuart thrives on bringing out the best in students of all ages and ability.

Paul Nicholas is an accomplished acoustic finger-style player/singer and songwriter from Wales. He regularly plays at clubs and festivals all over the U.K both solo and with his trio. His songs have been played on local and national radio shows. Paul is an enthusiastic teacher who loves helping students to discover ‘the dusty end of the guitar’! Paul Nicholas.
